Vinyl plank flooring is quickly becoming Houston's go-to flooring option, but have you ever wondered why? Whether you have wondered about this or not, you might want to start thinking about it if you are in the market for new floors!

You probably wouldn't be surprised to hear that we have thought a lot about the issue, Flooring is our business after all, and we would like to share those thoughts with you to help you make a more informed decision about your next flooring project.

So, if you are thinking about new floors, and are curious about vinyl plank flooring, this one's for you! Here are a few reasons Houston is increasingly turning to vinyl plank for their flooring solutions!

It's waterproof

We can all agree that Houston is a pretty humid city. High humidity levels pose a specific danger to some of the more popular flooring materials, such as carpet or hardwood. Carpet is susceptible to mold and mildew buildup that grows unseen beneath it, as a result of high humidity. Hardwood and engineered hardwood flooring also suffer from serious damage as a result of humidity that takes the form of warped, separated, or cupped floorboards that pretty much destroy the installation.

If you'd like the look of a wood floor without all the risk our high humidity brings, vinyl plank flooring is probably the best option for your Houston home!

It is durable

Vinyl plank flooring is engineered to be durable from the word "go". The top layer of vinyl plank flooring is known as a "wear layer", and is responsible for keeping your flooring's image layer safe and undamaged.

The level of protection offered is generally determined by how thick this layer happens to be. This thickness is measured in units known as "mil", not to be confused with millimeters. One millimeter is actually equal to 39.4 mil, or about 1/1000 of an inch.

Generally, you want at least a 12 mil wear layer for basic protection, but you might like to go as high as 20 mil if you have pets or heavy foot traffic in your home, just to be safe.
