Vinyl plank looks incredibly similar to wood planks, so if you yearn for hardwood but, for whatever reason, you can’t have it, this flooring is for you.

There’s some confusion surrounding it, however.  One of the biggest misconceptions is that vinyl, whether in plank or tile flooring, is used interchangeably with laminate.

A+ Floors 4U is setting the record straight once and for all. The company, one of the biggest flooring retailers in the Houston area, also provides services such as installation, design consultation and free in-home measurements, servicing Houston, Katy, Fulshear, Simonton, Richmond and Cypress.

Now for the Questions:

I’d love to have hardwood in my bath.  Could I install this here?  Yes, this is a completely waterproof flooring, so it’s fine for installation in the bathroom or in below grade areas, such as the basement and in the leakiest of kitchens.

I have kids and a very active dog. Can I install it?  Sure.  It’s highly durable, so much so, in fact, it’s often recommended for those with kids. There’s a tough, clear, protective wear layer that makes it scratch-resistant.  It’s stain-resistant, so marker, crayons, lipstick and whatever your kids get in to, wipe right up.

Vinyl plank is considered one of the best flooring types for pets. First, it’s durable and waterproof.  More than that, it has some traction so if a dog runs; he can’t skid and bump into a wall which can cause injury.  It also has a little flexibility and doesn’t get very cold, so if your dog is senior, he’ll definitely appreciate that!

Can I install it over concrete? Yes, in fact vinyl planks are widely considered the best flooring for basements. If it’s a damp basement, lay a vapor barrier between the cement slabs and planks.

Do I need an underlayment to install it?  Underlayments absorb noise and provide cushioning that makes it a little softer and more flexible.  However, some already comes with an attached underlayment, so there’s no need to add another one. It also depends upon the type of installation and your sub-floor.  The best thing is to ask a flooring expert.
