Houston can get pretty humid, especially in the summer.

People love hardwood flooring; in fact, it ranks right up there in popularity. Many of us know, however, that high humidity and excess moisture can cause damage, so what to do?

The perfect alternative is vinyl, cut into a plank form to resemble wood flooring. It’s completely waterproof, and so realistic sometimes even design professionals have a hard time telling it from the “real thing.”

A+ Floors 4U presents the 411 on this material:

Facts About This Flooring
Vinyl comes in sheet, tile or plank form. This is a multilayered product with a photographic image and a clear plastic wear layer that makes it incredibly tough and moisture-proof. It is meant to resemble wood flooring.

Try to “walk off” the photographic image; it can’t be done, and if you have kids and pets, there are no worries because pull toys, dragged chairs, markers, crayons, tipped water bowls and anything else dished out, just won’t faze it

There is a large assortment of wood species and colors from which to choose; the planks are available in various widths and, to make it even more realistic, one can select texture features so it looks hand-scraped, wire-brushed or distressed.

Right now, the trend is toward wider planks and white or light gray floors, and it’s wonderful look for any decor, from casual contemporary to farmhouse and to traditional, among others.

Other benefits include:

It’s softer and more flexible, especially if you include an underlayment. Although it has the look and feel of hardwood, it’s much easier to stand on for long periods than wood.

Because it’s water-proof, it can be installed where wood can’t go, such as in bathrooms and other high-moisture areas.

Even kitchens can be a little iffy when it comes to real wood. There can be leaky pipes, appliance floods, etc., so the homeowner has to watch carefully.

As long as your sub-floor is in good condition, vinyl plank flooring can be installed right over it; that saves a lot of time and cost, since sub-floors often need special preparation.

Easy to care for: Just sweep and occasionally mop, using a manufacturer-approved detergent. That’s it!
